Catalac 8m (1975–1986)
The Compact Cruiser
The Catalac 8m was introduced as the smallest of the production series, and it brought many of the same robust features of the larger models into a more compact, package. Built with a strong GRP hull and initially featuring a single outboard engine; twin inboard diesels later became an option. the 8m was ideal for coastal cruising, estuary exploration, and even inland waterways.
Key Features:
- LOA: ~8.4 metres (27.5 ft)
- Beam: ~4.3 metres
- Twin hard chine hulls with very shallow draft (~0.7m)
- Enclosed cockpit with wheel steering
- 5 berth layout with standing headroom in the hulls and aft of the saloon
- Safe and simple rig for short-handed sailing
The 8m was appreciated for its ease of handling, low maintenance, and surprising liveability for its size. Its dry-out capability made it a favourite in tidal cruising grounds.
